Firm Profile
Having succeeded as trial lawyers at one of Houston’s largest
law firms, David Beck, Joe Redden, and Ron Secrest formed Beck,
Redden & Secrest, L.L.P. in January 1992. The Firm quickly
established and has continued to build on a reputation for representing
clients with energy and consummate skill and professionalism before
juries, judges, and arbitrators in high-stakes disputes in Texas
and throughout the country.
The Firm has grown from the three initial partners to eleven, and now comprises over 30 lawyers with extraordinary collective experience trying cases and arguing appeals involving, among others, the energy, communications, investment, banking, insurance, drug and health care, chemical, and high technology industries. The Firm also regularly represents professionals in the legal and accounting professions who are accused of wrongdoing.
The Firm handles a wide range of disputes, including oil and gas, product liability, antitrust, securities, environmental, insurance coverage, legal and accounting malpractice, and patent and other intellectual property cases, as well as multi-party and multi-district litigation. To provide value-added, cost-effective services, the Firm assembles efficient trial teams of attorneys and uniquely experienced legal assistants, carefully tailored to the needs of the individual client and matter.
Intellectual Property
The competitive pressures of the marketplace and rapidly advancing
technology have significantly increased the number of intellectual
property lawsuits being filed. In the last few years, the firm
has served as trial counsel in more than 25 intellectual property
matters throughout Texas, and, in particular, the Eastern District
of Texas. While the firm has primarily represented defendants in
those matters, our lawyers also have acted on behalf of several
plaintiffs.
In September, 2006, the firm successfully defended OutlookSoft
Corporation in a patent infringement trial in Marshall, Texas,
securing a jury verdict invalidating each of the plaintiff’s
patents-in-suit.
The firm has represented companies in intellectual property litigation
involving a variety of industries, including those in the pharmaceutical,
semi-conductor, computer software, communications, and consumer
products industries. Representative clients have included Abbott
Laboratories, Analog Devices, Inc.; Becton Dickinson& Company;
Hewlett-Packard Company; Hynix Semiconductor America, Inc. ; Hyundai
