BRS Obtains Defense Verdict in Favor of Memorial Hermann Hospital System
March 11, 2010On March 11, 2010, David Beck and Geoff Gannaway obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of Memorial Hermann in a major antitrust lawsuit in Texas state court. The trial lasted almost two and a half months. The plaintiffs, who were physician-investors in a now defunct physician-owned hospital in West Houston, claimed that Memorial Hermann was responsible for the failure of their hospital, and asserted antitrust claims and claims for tortious interference with prospective and existing business relationships. The plaintiffs sought approximately $25 million in actual damages, plus several million in attorneys’ fees.
